ICC Video Confirms Pakistan as Champions Trophy Host

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled a new visual identity for the ICC Champions Trophy, confirming Pakistan as the host nation for the men’s and women’s tournaments. The new design highlights Lahore’s Shahi Qila and the country’s iconic truck art. The men’s ICC Champions Trophy will return in 2025, marking its first appearance since 2017, while the women’s tournament will be introduced in a T20 format. The competitions will alternate every two years, with the men’s event featuring the top eight teams in an ODI format and the women’s event featuring the top six teams in a T20 showdown for the coveted white jackets.

However, the announcement comes amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, with India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 men’s event. The Indian government has reportedly communicated its decision to the ICC through the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), citing security concerns. In response, the BCCI has proposed a hybrid model, where India’s matches could be played at a neutral venue, but Pakistan’s government has insisted that all games be held in Pakistan.

The controversy has further escalated as broadcasters, who paid a reported $3 billion for media rights through 2027, press the ICC for clarity on the tournament schedule. These broadcasters, eager to secure high-viewership matches like the India-Pakistan clashes, have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of a confirmed schedule, citing financial losses if India does not participate.

In light of these tensions, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly rejected the hybrid model and insisted that the event should take place exclusively in Pakistan. The ICC is now working to address the concerns raised by both the PCB and the BCCI. The ICC has initiated discussions with the Indian Cricket Board to resolve the situation, and sources suggest the matter may soon be clarified with a formal statement from the BCCI, outlining their position on the tournament’s logistics and security considerations.
