Imran Khan and Gandapur Booked Over Cop's Death in PTI Protest

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following the death of police constable Mubashir Hassan near the Hakka Interchange. The FIR, lodged at the Taxila police station, names PTI founder Imran Khan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Salar Khan Kakar, and Shahid Khatak. It includes sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the FIR, PTI supporters attacked police personnel using tear gas, rubber bullets, firearms, and stones, in violation of Section 144, which bans public gatherings. Constable Mubashir Hassan was abducted, severely injured, and later found under the Hakka Bridge. He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the hospital. Several other police constables were injured in the attack.

In response to escalating violence, including the deaths of four Rangers personnel in Islamabad, the Ministry of Interior has deployed the Pakistan Army under Article 245 of the Constitution. This decision grants the army broad powers to maintain law and order, including imposing curfews and authorizing extreme measures, such as using lethal force against rioters.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the violent actions of PTI protesters, describing the incidents as acts of extremism rather than peaceful protest. He expressed sorrow over the loss of life and reaffirmed that Pakistan cannot tolerate bloodshed or violence for political purposes, urging that such behavior threatens the stability of the nation.
