Aleppo falls out of Syrian Government Control

For the first time since Syria’s conflict began in 2012, Aleppo is no longer under President Bashar al-Assad’s control, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Rebel groups, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, have seized most of Aleppo, leaving only Kurdish-held neighborhoods outside their control.

Rebels captured Aleppo’s airport and surrounding areas after a major offensive, which the Syrian government confirmed has caused significant military losses. Iran, a key ally of Assad, reaffirmed its support for the regime, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visiting Damascus to deliver a message of solidarity.

The developments underline the intensifying conflict, as rebels gain ground amid accusations from Tehran of foreign interference.
