On Monday, OpenAI announced the release of its new AI model, Sora, which generates videos from text, now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. This expansion marks OpenAI’s entry into multimodal AI technologies, aiming to compete with similar tools from Meta, Google, and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion.
Originally introduced in February, Sora was initially limited to safety testers but is now accessible to users as Sora Turbo, free of charge. OpenAI plans to introduce customized pricing for different user types early next year.

Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, 20 seconds long, and in various aspect ratios, though Sora is not yet available in the EU, Switzerland, or the UK. The company also plans to block harmful content, such as child abuse material and deepfakes, and will limit uploads of people initially, expanding the feature as safety measures are refined.
