Richard Grenell, recently appointed by US President-elect Donald Trump as a special envoy for missions, sparked conversations after responding to a social media post by a Pakistani TV channel that referred to him as ‘homosexual.’
Grenell, who previously served as Acting Director of National Intelligence in the United States, expressed his support for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for approximately 1.5 years.

A day after his appointment, Grenell shared a news article from the Pakistani TV channel about his new role and reiterated his stance on Khan’s freedom, tweeting, “I’ll say it again. Free Imran Khan.” His comments regarding Khan’s release have added complexity to his appointment, drawing attention to international human rights concerns.
Trump announced Grenell’s appointment, emphasizing his long-standing experience as a foreign policy advisor, entrusting him with addressing major foreign policy issues for the incoming administration.
This isn’t the first instance of Washington offering support for Imran Khan. Numerous US House of Representatives members urged outgoing President Joe Biden to push for Khan’s release, with senators also advocating for the release of political prisoners and addressing human rights violations in Pakistan.
