Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday to participate in the 11th D-8 Summit, scheduled from December 18 to 20, 2024.
With the theme “Investing in Youth, Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy,” the summit aims to enhance economic collaboration among member nations. The D-8 organization, comprising Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, and Turkey, focuses on strengthening ties in key areas like agriculture, food security, and tourism.

According to the Foreign Office, PM Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to the D-8’s principles and emphasize the importance of fostering partnerships for mutual growth. He will also highlight Pakistan’s dedication to promoting cooperation in vital sectors.
During the event, the Prime Minister will join a special session addressing the humanitarian crisis and reconstruction challenges in Gaza and Lebanon caused by Israeli aggression in the Middle East. He is expected to reiterate Pakistan’s call for peace and stability in the region.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the 21st D-8 Council of Ministers meeting on December 18. On the sidelines, PM Sharif is likely to hold bilateral discussions with leaders of other member states.
