FIA Clears Dr. Arif Alvi, Sindh High Court Extends Stay on Arrest

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has cleared former President Dr. Arif Alvi, confirming that no cases have been registered against him. This comes after a petition was filed seeking details of any legal proceedings against him. A two-member constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), led by Justice K.K. Agha, heard the petition, during which the Assistant Attorney General submitted a report stating that there were no cases against Dr. Alvi in the FIA’s records.

However, the court expressed concern over delays in obtaining the details of cases registered in Sindh province. The Assistant Advocate General requested additional time to gather the required information, which prompted questions from the judges regarding the prolonged process. Justice Adnan ul Kareem Memon questioned the responsibility of the Sindh Inspector General (IG) in providing the details, implying possible concealment of the FIR. The government lawyer clarified that an FIR had been registered in Mianwali and a protective bail had been secured in Sindh.

The court, meanwhile, extended the stay on Dr. Alvi’s arrest and deferred the hearing until January 13, granting more time to provide the necessary case details. The court has also prohibited any action against the former president, including arrest, in relation to new cases until further instructions.

Imran Khan Summons PTI Negotiation Committee to Adiala Jail

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has summoned the members of his negotiation committee to meet him at Adiala Jail. The committee includes several prominent PTI figures, including Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, and other key party leaders.

The formal request for the meeting was made by PTI’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, to the Adiala Jail authorities. The committee members are expected to meet with Imran Khan today to discuss ongoing political developments. The move comes amid heightened political tensions, with Khan demanding the fulfillment of his two major demands by Sunday, or else he has threatened to launch a civil disobedience movement.

Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who visited him at the jail yesterday, shared that the former prime minister reiterated his call for judicial inquiries into the events of May 9 and November 26, as well as the release of innocent PTI workers detained during the protests.
