Experts Welcome Satellite Internet Service, Hope for Boost in Connectivity

Business leaders and experts have praised the government’s efforts to introduce a renowned satellite internet service in Pakistan, viewing it as a crucial step to address connectivity issues and stimulate the rural economy. The launch of the satellite service, which is expected to provide reliable internet access in remote areas, is seen as a game-changer for various sectors.

The government is currently in discussions with Starlink, a satellite internet provider from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, to facilitate its operations in Pakistan. Satellite internet services are designed to reach areas where traditional infrastructure, such as cell towers or fibre optic cables, is limited or unavailable, making it ideal for Pakistan’s rural and remote regions.

Experts are urging the government to create supportive policies and regulations to attract satellite providers and foster healthy competition in the internet connectivity industry. By doing so, they believe that businesses and individuals in rural areas can benefit immensely from this technology, boosting sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and natural resource exploration.

Anosh Ahmed, a Pakistani-origin American businessman, highlighted the potential of satellite internet to transform rural Pakistan by bringing high-speed internet to underserved areas. This would empower small towns and villages, enabling residents to engage in remote work, online education, and global commerce, ultimately helping bridge the digital divide.

IT expert Dr. Noman Said also emphasized the importance of satellite internet as an alternative solution for IT companies. He noted that it would provide reliable backup in case of disruptions in traditional internet services, ensuring timely deliveries for exporters and preventing business losses.

With enhanced connectivity, satellite internet could help Pakistan’s rural economy thrive by improving access to markets, digital services, and financial inclusion. It would also enable sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and tourism to fully realize their potential and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
