Google Pay is set to officially launch in Pakistan by mid-March 2025, marking a significant step towards digital payment adoption in the country.
According to sources, the launch was confirmed by Google in November 2024 and will be supported through partnerships with Visa, Mastercard, and leading local banks. Users in Pakistan will be able to link their bank-issued debit and credit cards to Google Pay via the Google Wallet app, enabling contactless digital payments.

Initially, the focus will be on basic contactless payments, with features such as loyalty cards and public transport passes being introduced in future phases. Preparations are underway, with four to six major banks working alongside Visa and Mastercard to meet technical requirements.
The State Bank of Pakistan has emphasized that the country’s payment infrastructure is well-equipped to support the service, with 133,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals, 99% of which are already prepared for mobile contactless payments.
Previously, leaked developer release notes hinted at Pakistan’s inclusion, along with other countries like Egypt, Venezuela, Bermuda, Cambodia, and El Salvador, for Google Wallet’s global rollout.
