NADRA to Replace Website with Mobile App for Improved Services

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced plans to shut down its Pak ID website and launch an advanced mobile app to streamline its services. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed the decision during a workshop, explaining that the app will replace the website starting January 17. This move comes in response to concerns over fraudulent websites that misused citizens’ personal information for the creation of fake identification documents.

The Interior Minister pointed out that citizens, particularly overseas Pakistanis, struggled with the website due to issues like scanning and uploading fingerprints. NADRA’s new mobile app, which has undergone significant improvements, will now provide all services, including the issuance of national identity cards, NICOP, B Forms, and more, allowing users to complete the entire process from home.

In addition, NADRA will establish three new regional centers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which are expected to start operations by March 31. These centers aim to improve communication with citizens in remote areas and expedite service delivery. The minister also highlighted that NADRA offices in 19 remaining tehsils will become operational by the same date.

Meanwhile, concerns have arisen over the misuse of NADRA’s Verisys system by some officials. Reports indicate that restricted data from the system, including family tree information and criminal records, has been exploited for personal gain, raising security issues.

In a separate move, NADRA has set up 24-hour passport counters at Mega Centres in Karachi, with plans to expand the service across the country, following the successful implementation of 24/7 passport services in Islamabad.
