In his second inaugural address, President Donald Trump presented himself as a peacemaker but quickly ignited controversy by announcing plans to “take back” the Panama Canal. Speaking indoors at the U.S. Capitol, Trump also outlined a series of executive orders, many aimed at immigration reform, including halting illegal entry and reinstating his “remain in Mexico” policy.
Trump’s vow to reclaim the Panama Canal drew swift reactions, with Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino rejecting the claim, reaffirming Panama’s control of the canal. Mulino called for dialogue, while Trump criticized China’s growing influence in the region, labeling it a violation of U.S. interests.

Despite his message of unity, Trump’s remarks, such as renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” and his assertive foreign policy stance on the Panama Canal, indicate a potential escalation of tensions in global relations.
