Heavy Snowfall and Rain Hit Various Regions of Pakistan

Various regions of Pakistan, including Islamabad, are witnessing a significant change in weather as widespread rain and snowfall bring a sharp drop in temperatures.

In the capital, a light drizzle accompanied by strong winds swept through late last night, intensifying the winter chill.

Azad Kashmir’s Leepa Valley has been blanketed by continuous snowfall, with areas such as Bathwar Gali and Sher Gali receiving heavy accumulations. Reports indicate that over a foot of snow has piled up, severing road connections to the capital and isolating several regions.

The intense snowfall has severely impacted daily life, leaving residents and authorities struggling to cope with the disruptions.

Meanwhile, Sarai Alamgir in northeastern Punjab experienced its first winter rain, causing a noticeable temperature drop. While the changing weather adds to the seasonal charm, it has also resulted in travel disruptions, raising concerns among commuters and officials.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had previously predicted predominantly cold and dry weather across most plain areas for the next 24 hours, with hilly regions expected to experience extremely low temperatures, especially during the morning and night.

However, forecasts now suggest that isolated areas in northeast Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby hilly regions may see thunderstorms, light snowfall, and rain in the coming hours.

In Abbottabad, intermittent snowfall has continued in Nathia Gali, Ayubia, and Thandiani since last night, further intensifying the cold. Authorities have cautioned residents about potential hazards caused by freezing temperatures.

Snowfall in these areas has also led to power outages in multiple villages, further worsening the situation. Additionally, Murree Road has been shut down due to heavy snowfall, stranding travelers and causing significant delays.

As winter conditions grow harsher, both residents and authorities are urged to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather developments.
