Former South African captain AB de Villiers has shown support for Pakistan’s Babar Azam amid his recent struggles with form.
Despite Babar’s dip in performance during the tri-nation ODI series, de Villiers remains confident that this phase is temporary, citing his record as the fastest to 6,000 ODI runs alongside Hashim Amla as proof of his talent.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers suggested that the pressures of captaincy may have impacted Babar’s consistency, especially in Test cricket. Now, under Mohammad Rizwan’s leadership, he believes Babar can focus solely on his batting.
Sharing advice he gives his own son, de Villiers urged Babar to maintain his rhythm and concentrate on scoring runs to regain top form. He also praised Rizwan’s recent performances, including a match-winning 122 against South Africa, as a positive sign for Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
The tournament begins on February 19, with Pakistan set to face New Zealand in the opener in Karachi.
