Elon Musk Mandates US Federal Rmployees to Report Weekly Tasks or Face Termination

Elon Musk has ordered federal employees across the United States to submit weekly work reports or face termination, emphasizing stricter accountability in government agencies.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued emails on Saturday, instructing employees to list their weekly accomplishments and send them to their managers by Monday night. Musk stated that the directive aligns with President Donald Trump’s administrative policies.

“If employees fail to comply, it will be considered a resignation,” Musk wrote on X, the platform he owns.

As head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has already overseen the dismissal of over 20,000 federal workers. The OPM defended the decision, stating it aims to enhance government efficiency, though legal experts question whether non-compliance can justify termination. Some suggest that disciplinary actions such as warnings or suspensions may be more enforceable.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), representing over 800,000 federal workers, strongly opposed the move, vowing to challenge any wrongful dismissals. “This directive reflects Musk and Trump’s disregard for federal employees,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley.

The order has caused confusion within government agencies. Some departments have advised employees to await further instructions before complying, citing security concerns, while others, such as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), have acknowledged the directive as legitimate.

Musk has previously implemented similar work-tracking measures at X (formerly Twitter) and Tesla. The latest mandate signals ongoing restructuring within the federal workforce as the Trump administration intensifies its reforms.
