A Japanese woman is under investigation by South Korean authorities following an incident where she kissed BTS’s Jin during a fan event in Seoul last year, causing outrage among K-pop fans. The incident took place on June 13, 2024, shortly after Jin’s discharge from military service, during an event where he hugged 1,000 fans.
The fan, however, went beyond a simple hug and kissed Jin’s face, visibly surprising the K-pop star, who quickly turned away. A video capturing the moment went viral, leading to widespread criticism from BTS’s fanbase. One fan even filed a criminal complaint, prompting South Korean police to launch an investigation.

With assistance from Japanese authorities, the woman has been identified, and she is being requested to return to South Korea for questioning. The woman later described the encounter on her blog, mentioning that she kissed Jin’s neck and commented on the softness of his skin. BTS’s agency, HYBE, has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
This event has sparked renewed discussions about toxic fan behavior in the K-pop community, particularly the dangers posed by “sasaeng fans,” who are known for obsessive and invasive actions towards idols. The industry continues to struggle with the negative impact of such behavior on its artists.
