Scientists Develop Injectable Hydrogel to Strengthen Bones

Scientists

Researchers at EPFL in Switzerland and Flowbone have developed an injectable hydrogel that boosts bone density, potentially transforming osteoporosis treatment. Lab tests on rats showed a threefold increase in bone strength within weeks, and when combined with the drug Zoledronate, density increased nearly fivefold.

Made from hyaluronic acid and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, the hydrogel mimics natural bone minerals, reinforcing weak areas faster than existing medications. While not a permanent cure, it could significantly reduce fracture risks and speed up recovery. Clinical trials are the next step toward real-world use.
