Actress Arrested for Smuggling Gold Worth Millions at Bengaluru Airport

South Indian actress Rania Rao has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold, valued at $1.47 million, through Bengaluru International Airport, triggering a major investigation.

According to Indian media, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) received a tip-off regarding Rao’s arrival from Dubai.

On March 3, authorities intercepted her at the airport and discovered 14 gold bars strapped to her thighs using tape and bandages. While initial reports suggested the gold was concealed in her jacket, DRI later confirmed it was directly attached to her body. During interrogation, Rao reportedly admitted to the smuggling attempt.

The case took a surprising turn when it emerged that the 33-year-old actress is the stepdaughter of a senior Karnataka police officer with the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). This revelation has raised concerns about possible high-level links within smuggling networks.

Investigators are now determining whether Rao was acting alone or was part of a larger smuggling operation. Authorities are also investigating the intended recipients of the illicit gold.

Reports indicate that Rao had traveled to Dubai 27 times in the past year, leading DRI to place her under surveillance before making the arrest.

The investigation is ongoing as officials work to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
