South Indian actress Rania Rao has been arrested at Bengaluru’s international airport for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth $1.47 million. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) acted on a tip-off and intercepted Rao upon her arrival from Dubai on March 3.
Officials discovered 14 gold bars strapped to her thighs using tape and bandages. Initial reports suggested the gold was hidden in her jacket, but authorities later confirmed it was directly attached to her body. During questioning, Rao reportedly admitted to smuggling.

The case has gained significant attention due to Rao’s high-profile connections. She is the stepdaughter of a senior police officer holding the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) in Karnataka, raising concerns over possible links between law enforcement and smuggling networks.
Authorities are now investigating whether she acted alone or was part of a larger syndicate. Reports indicate that Rao traveled to Dubai 27 times in the past year, leading DRI to place her under surveillance before the arrest. The investigation is ongoing as officials probe the full extent of the smuggling operation.
