Education Minister Rana Sikandar Faces Backlash for Failing to Name Pakistan's National Animal

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has become the latest target of online criticism after struggling to name Pakistan’s national animal in a widely circulated video.

A viral clip shows the PML-N leader fumbling over simple general knowledge questions, including the identity of Pakistan’s national animal. When asked, Hayat hesitated before replying, “I wish it could be a horse.” The footage also reveals his struggle with basic mathematics, as he failed to solve a simple multiplication problem.

The video quickly gained traction on social media, with users expressing disappointment over his lack of basic knowledge, especially given his role in overseeing the education system of Pakistan’s most populous province.

Many questioned his competence, highlighting that Markhor, Pakistan’s national animal, is a well-known national symbol.

Despite the intense criticism, Hayat has been actively working to combat corruption in the education sector. He has conducted surprise visits to examination centers to tackle cheating, bribery, and exam manipulation by private institutions.

His initiatives have contributed to public school students achieving top ranks in recent matriculation exams.

This incident has reignited debates about the qualifications of public officials, particularly those in key sectors like education, emphasizing the need for knowledge and accountability in leadership roles.
