China Retaliates Against Trump with 125% Tariff Hike on US Goods

On Friday, Beijing escalated its trade dispute with the United States by raising tariffs on US imports to 125%, retaliating against President Donald Trump’s decision to increase duties on Chinese goods to 145%. This move intensifies the ongoing trade war, which threatens to disrupt global supply chains.

The tariff hike follows the White House’s pressure on China, which is the world’s second-largest economy and a major supplier of US imports. The US had previously imposed additional tariffs on China while suspending reciprocal duties on other countries.

China’s Finance Ministry condemned the US tariffs, stating that they violate international trade laws and are an act of unilateral bullying and coercion. In response to Trump’s decision, the Chinese government strongly criticized the tariff increases as unjust and harmful.

The new 125% tariff comes after a series of escalating trade disputes between the two nations, with both sides imposing tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of goods. This sharp increase in tariffs is likely to have a significant impact on global business, consumers, and supply chains.

Trump, expressing his frustration with China’s trade practices, commented on Truth Social, stating that China must understand that unfair trade practices are no longer acceptable. He also revealed plans to pause some of the tariffs on other nations for 90 days, rewarding those who have refrained from retaliating and shown interest in trade negotiations with the US.
