Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a Rs1 billion project to provide artificial limbs, hearing aids, wheelchairs, and other assistive devices to differently-abled individuals across the province. Over 300 special persons from various districts attended the ceremony marking the historic initiative.
The CM announced that beneficiaries would receive a wide range of assistive tools including motorised wheelchairs, tricycles, rollators, hearing aids, and bionics-based artificial limbs. She emphasized Punjab’s pioneering role in becoming the first province in Pakistan to deploy advanced bionics technology for rehabilitation.

In a touching moment during the event, six-year-old Sohail — who lost his arm in an accident — was fitted with a bionic limb that responded to his brain’s signals. For the first time since his injury, he was able to move his hand, clap, and share a high-five with the chief minister.
Separately, Maryam Nawaz presided over a meeting on the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar housing scheme. Officials reported that 28,219 families had received Rs30 billion in interest-free loans in just five months, with over 23,500 houses nearing completion. The proposal to include more commercial banks in the programme was also discussed.
