Gaza medics killed by Israeli forces suffered headshots, explosive wounds

Gaza

Forensic examinations of 14 Palestinian medics killed last month in southern Gaza reveal gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and injuries caused by explosive bullets, according to Dr. Ahmed Dhair, a Gaza-based pathologist.

The victims, who included staff from the Palestinian Red Crescent, civil defence, and UN agencies, were reportedly unarmed, in uniform, and on a marked humanitarian mission. One body had wrist bruises suggesting possible restraint.

Israel initially confirmed carrying out the strike but altered its account following contradicting video footage and burial evidence. The UN stated that Israeli troops buried the bodies in a sandy grave, raising concerns of summary executions.

Though the IDF alleges some medics had Hamas ties, no evidence has been made public. Rights groups condemned the killings, calling them a potential violation of international humanitarian law.

The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 51,000, while aid remains restricted amid Israel’s condition that hostages held by Hamas be released.
