Pakistan Identifies 500 Social Media Accounts Spreading Alleged Anti-State Content

Amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has uncovered 500 social media accounts suspected of orchestrating a coordinated anti-state propaganda campaign.

A formal inquiry has been launched against these accounts, which, according to officials, were detected on May 8 and are believed to be part of a deliberate attempt to exploit the current geopolitical climate to destabilize the country.

“These accounts have been actively spreading disinformation and anti-state rhetoric during a period of heightened national sensitivity,” stated a senior official involved in the probe. Authorities believe the activity may be organized and potentially influenced by external hostile forces.

Cybercrime specialists are now examining the online patterns and digital activity linked to the individuals behind these accounts. The investigation is being conducted in partnership with intelligence services and law enforcement agencies to track down the networks and origins behind the campaign.

Furthermore, the NCCIA has begun the process of acquiring data from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to help identify those responsible. This includes efforts to access both digital and biometric records that may lead to the identification of individuals or organizations assisting or managing the accounts.

Authorities have issued a warning that anyone found guilty of launching or supporting online campaigns aimed at threatening national stability or security will face strict legal consequences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and other applicable laws.
