Mexican Navy Ship Slams into Brooklyn Bridge, Injures Over Two Dozen

The Mexican Navy’s training ship, ARM Cuauhtémoc, collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in what officials describe as a navigation error, resulting in around two dozen injuries, some critical.

The vessel’s towering masts struck the famous New York City suspension bridge while passing underneath, causing parts of the structure to break off and fall onto the ship’s deck. Several crew members were stationed on the masts at the time, leading to multiple injuries.

Carrying over 200 people, including naval cadets on an annual training mission, the ship reportedly lost power just before the collision, which may have contributed to misjudging the clearance height. Authorities confirmed that no one fell into the water and that the bridge sustained no major damage. Emergency responders promptly transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported that the ship lost the tops of two masts but all crew members were accounted for. The Mexican Navy has acknowledged the damage to the vessel and has launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, New York City officials urged residents to avoid areas around the South Street Seaport in Manhattan and DUMBO in Brooklyn due to traffic disruptions and increased emergency activity.
