‘We are not a Violent Nation, Our First Priority is Peace’: DG ISPR

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to peace, stating that the country does not favor violence and has responded to Indian military actions with caution and responsibility.

The recent conflict escalated after India carried out airstrikes in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on May 6–7, resulting in the deaths of over 30 civilians. In retaliation, Pakistan shot down five Indian fighter jets and intercepted several drones. Following further Indian attacks on Pakistani military sites on May 9, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyan Marsoos,” targeting Indian military installations while deliberately avoiding civilian areas.

In an interview with RT Arabic, Lt Gen Chaudhry highlighted that Pakistan prioritizes peace and is not a violent nation. He disclosed that the ceasefire was initiated by an Indian defense official and brokered with U.S. mediation. He also commended Pakistan’s diplomatic approach during the crisis, describing it as mature and effective.

Lt Gen Chaudhry criticized India for refusing Pakistan’s request for an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), an incident India blamed on Pakistan without providing evidence. He stated, “India declined a fair probe and instead responded with missile strikes on civilian targets.”

The ISPR chief further accused India of supporting terrorism within Pakistan, especially through groups active in Balochistan. He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully committed to defending the nation’s sovereignty and will take decisive action against any hostile moves.
