Lahore Court Sentences Man for Learning Bomb-Making via Social Media App

An Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore has sentenced Hanan Abdullah to two and a half years in prison and fined him Rs50,000 for acquiring bomb-making knowledge via a social media application.

The sentence was delivered after the conclusion of the trial. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) revealed that the accused was receiving instructions on bomb-making from a foreign online source.

The case came to light when the FBI alerted Pakistani authorities about Hanan’s suspicious online activities.

Following this, the Pakistani government instructed the FIA to carry out a thorough investigation. During the proceedings, the FIA presented eight witnesses to support the case.

The court found Hanan Abdullah guilty of learning how to manufacture explosives but stated that the prosecution could not prove any further charges.

In its ruling, the court mentioned that while the maximum penalty for this offense is ten years, it decided on a lighter sentence of two and a half years, taking into account the defendant’s age and overall circumstances.

Additionally, the court ordered that since Hanan Abdullah had been released on bail earlier, he must now be taken into custody and sent to Kot Lakhpat Jail to serve his sentence.
