Telecom Users in Pakistan Cross 200 Million Mark, PTA Offers Free Data Package

Pakistan has officially crossed the 200 million telecom subscriber milestone, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). In celebration of this achievement, the PTA has announced a complimentary package for mobile users across the country.

On June 20, telecom users will receive 2 GB of free data along with 200 on-net minutes, both valid for 24 hours. The move is aimed at acknowledging user contributions to the country’s growing digital landscape.

PTA reports that out of the total telecom subscribers, over 197 million are mobile users, while broadband connections have surpassed 143 million. Fixed-line telephone services remain relatively limited, with about 3 million users. Mobile coverage now extends to 80.30% of Pakistan’s geographic areas, indicating considerable expansion in connectivity.

In a separate advisory, PTA has urged users to ensure their SIM cards are registered under their own names. Citing concerns over security, the authority warned that unregistered or misused SIMs can be involved in fraudulent or criminal activities. Users are encouraged to verify their SIM ownership via cnic.sims.pk or by sending their CNIC number via SMS to 668.
