Pakistan, China, and Russia Call for Urgent Ceasefire Amid Israel-Iran Tensions at UNSC

Pakistan, Russia, and China have submitted a joint draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East. This move follows heightened global alarm over a potential regional war triggered by US and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.

During an emergency session of the UNSC, the three nations delivered strong criticism of US military actions and warned that the situation could spiral into a broader catastrophe if not addressed urgently.

Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, denounced the American strikes as a clear disregard for global norms, accusing the US of acting with “complete contempt for the international community.” He warned that Washington had “opened a Pandora’s box,” placing the world in grave danger.

He added, “These reckless actions risk widespread suffering and instability. The US is not only indifferent to the mass killing of Palestinians but is now endangering humanity itself.” Nebenzya condemned the joint US-Israeli attacks, calling them an affront to international order and highlighting the hypocrisy in nuclear oversight—pointing out that Israel remains outside the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), while Iran remains among the most inspected nations by the IAEA.

China Urges De-escalation and Respect for International Law

Echoing Russia’s concerns, China’s UN ambassador, Fu Cong, strongly condemned the US airstrikes on Iran, particularly those targeting nuclear facilities. He warned of the potential for a broader regional conflict.

“We urge Israel to stop its hostilities immediately and avoid pushing the region toward chaos,” Fu said. He emphasized that the US strikes were a “blatant violation” of international law, the UN Charter, and Iran’s sovereignty. According to him, the attacks undermined global nuclear safeguards and weakened international efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

Pakistan Stands with Iran, Calls for Dialogue

Representing Pakistan, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar called on the Security Council to take decisive steps to prevent a wider war. “We call for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire and urge all involved to return to the path of diplomacy,” he stated.

He criticized the attacks as violations of international law and expressed Pakistan’s “deep solidarity with the people and government of Iran.” He stressed that military escalation must be avoided and that peace efforts should be prioritized.

Ambassador Iftikhar also revealed that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister was actively involved in diplomatic efforts, and he urged member states to support the ceasefire resolution submitted by Pakistan, China, and Russia.

Iran Warns of Retaliation

Iran’s UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, sharply condemned what he described as “deliberate and unprovoked aggression” by the United States, allegedly directed by former US President Donald Trump. He said the attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow marked a dark chapter in US foreign policy.

Iravani stated that Iran reserves the full right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter and emphasized Iran’s identity as an “independent and peace-loving nation.” He linked the US strikes to earlier Israeli operations on Iranian territory that, according to Tehran, have killed more than 400 people.

“These coordinated attacks are part of a broader campaign of hostility,” Iravani concluded. “They will not go unanswered.”
