Google Revolutionizes Online Shopping with New AI-Powered Virtual Try-On Tool

Google has introduced an innovative mobile app called Doppl, designed to transform online clothing shopping by letting users virtually try on outfits using AI-generated visuals tailored to their own body.

Now available in the U.S. for both iOS and Android users, Doppl uses artificial intelligence to create a realistic digital model of the user based on a full-body photo they upload. Users can then overlay outfit images—whether sourced from online stores, social media, or personal photos—onto their virtual avatar to preview how the clothing would look on them.

Taking things a step further, Doppl offers AI-powered videos that simulate how outfits move with the body, giving users a more dynamic and lifelike experience compared to static try-ons. The app also includes features for saving favorite looks, maintaining a personal outfit archive, and sharing try-ons with friends or online.

In a recent blog post, Google shared that Doppl builds on its earlier virtual try-on efforts from Google Shopping, but marks the first time the company is offering the feature through a dedicated standalone app. While past tools allowed users to see clothes modeled on various preset body types, Doppl introduces fully personalized avatars created from user-uploaded images.

Google emphasized that Doppl is still in its experimental phase under Google Labs, cautioning that the technology may not always perfectly reflect fit, style, or details of the clothing.

By launching Doppl independently of its shopping ecosystem, Google seems to be aiming at fashion-savvy users who enjoy experimenting with their style in a more social and playful environment. It also offers the company a valuable opportunity to collect user insights that could shape the next generation of AI-driven fashion tech.

At present, Google has not announced any plans to launch Doppl outside the U.S. market.
