Punjab’s Home Department has announced the arrest of 74 individuals for posting provocative and sectarian content on social media, as part of an intensified crackdown during the sensitive month of Muharram. The department reported that a total of 932 social media links have been flagged to the cyber patrolling cell for investigation.
A spokesman for the department stated that immediate action is being taken against users promoting religious hatred online. “The cyber patrolling cell is actively monitoring sectarian and inciting material,” the official noted, emphasizing that the provincial government is following a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding online incitement.

Citizens have been advised to refrain from sharing or posting sectarian content. Authorities warn that any violations will lead to swift arrests and legal consequences. The campaign aims to curb the spread of inflammatory rhetoric that could disrupt peace during the holy month.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, speaking at a press conference in Lahore, reinforced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued clear orders for strict action. A specialized cyber security force, working in coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), will monitor online platforms around the clock.
Bokhari warned that not only could violators face arrest, but they also risk having their accounts suspended and facing full legal prosecution. The government is urging the public to act responsibly to help maintain communal harmony.
