The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Friday shared significant updates regarding ongoing and proposed airport projects across the country, according to official sources. The developments indicate a nationwide push to upgrade and expand Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure.
A feasibility study for a new airport in Mirpur is nearing completion, while land acquisition efforts are underway for the planned airport in Dera Ismail Khan. These steps reflect progress toward fulfilling long-standing regional demands for better air connectivity.

In Sukkur, authorities are weighing the options between constructing a new airport or expanding the current facility. Members of Parliament from the Sukkur region have been briefed by PAA officials on both possibilities.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Defence has instructed the PAA to resume commercial flight operations at Hyderabad Airport. Due to its short runway, only smaller aircraft can currently be accommodated. There are also proposals to establish a pilot training school at the airport, potentially enhancing aviation education in the region.
Additionally, the federal government has moved forward with plans to build an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), following demands from overseas Pakistanis and formal support from British MPs of Kashmiri origin. In Islamabad, the PAA has already advertised to hire a consultancy firm for the AJK project.
