In a shocking case from Delhi, a 39-year-old man, Md Firoz alias Suhel, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 62-year-old mother twice following their return from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. The incident took place in the Hauz Qazi area, police said on Saturday.
The victim, accompanied by her 25-year-old daughter, lodged a complaint at the Hauz Qazi police station. She accused her son of multiple assaults that occurred after the family returned from Saudi Arabia on August 1. The family had traveled for pilgrimage on July 25, including the victim’s 72-year-old retired father and younger daughter.
According to police, during the pilgrimage, Firoz reportedly called his father, accusing his mother of having a “bad character” and demanding that his father return to Delhi immediately to divorce her. The senior officer added, “The woman stated that her son contacted her husband during the trip, claiming she had a ‘bad character’ and insisted on a divorce.”
After returning to Delhi, the accused allegedly assaulted his mother on August 1 and attempted another attack the following day. Out of fear, she temporarily stayed with her elder daughter’s in-laws. The officer further said, “On August 11, when she returned home around 9:30 pm, her son locked her in a room, threatened her with a knife and scissors, and allegedly raped her.”
Initially too frightened to report the assaults, the victim remained silent. However, after a repeated attack on August 14 at 3:30 am, she gathered the courage to approach the police. A formal FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities stated that the accused is a graduate but currently unemployed, while the complainant is an illiterate housewife. Police have assured strict action as the case unfolds in Delhi, emphasizing support for the victim and her family during the investigation.
