Today, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar presided over a meeting at the Finance Division to discuss the reorganisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The team from the Aviation Division addressed the Chair on the operational and budgetary challenges that the PIA authorities are facing, as well as a detailed presentation on the possible solutions and steps that can be implemented to address such issues.

The members discussed the options for reorganising Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) to improve its performance and make it compliant with international norms. The minister directed that a thorough road map be developed and presented at the next meeting.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers for Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique, Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, Planning Development and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Aviation, Air Vice Marshal M. Amir Hayat, and senior officers from Finance and Aviation.
Separately, the minister presided over a meeting on Civil Aviation Division and Airport Security Force concerns, where he was briefed on the difficulties confronting the Aviation industry in terms of legislation, service provision, and security functions.
The meeting examined possible legislative options and the necessary adjustments to aviation laws/ordinances to improve the capability of the aviation sector and make it comply with worldwide aviation standards.
The finance minister directed the relevant authorities to bring forward the necessary legislation as quickly as possible to facilitate the immediate resumption of PIA flights to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
