Pakistan has raised alarm at the UN of global risks linked to deliberate attacks on transnational infrastructure, including energy pipelines and communication networks.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session on international peace and security, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistanโs Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, highlighted the 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline sabotage as a grave example.
He described the incident as โalarming and reprehensible,โ warning that such actions endanger global stability, disrupt markets, and undermine international law. He noted that attacks on civilian and energy facilities set a dangerous precedent for future conflicts.
Ambassador Jadoon emphasized that in todayโs interconnected world, the safety of pipelines, data cables, and telecommunication links must never be compromised. He stressed that even in times of hostility, civilian infrastructure should remain protected.
The envoy urged the global community to enforce international law, build stronger cooperative frameworks, and establish mechanisms to prevent sabotage. He called for strict accountability, insisting that perpetrators of such acts must face justice.
Germanyโs ongoing investigation into the Nord Stream incident was mentioned, with Jadoon stressing that only transparent and credible outcomes can restore trust. He noted that accountability is not only about justice but also about deterrence.
Summarizing Pakistanโs stance, the ambassador outlined three priorities: safeguarding transnational infrastructure, enforcing international law, and ensuring accountability. He reminded the council that without credible investigations and cooperation, the UN of global risks remains significant and unresolved.
Jadoon concluded that protecting pipelines, cables, and networks is essential for energy security and communication. He reiterated Pakistanโs call to prosecute those responsible, warning that failure to act would embolden future attacks.
By drawing attention at the UN of global risks, Pakistan underscored the urgent need for collective responsibility to protect critical infrastructure and maintain global stability.
