Authorities have announced that colleges in Lahore Division’s flood-hit areas closed as heavy rains and rising river levels disrupted normal life. The closure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff while rescue and relief operations continue.
According to officials, the recent floods have damaged infrastructure and made transportation unsafe. Roads connecting several towns remain submerged, making it difficult for students to travel. In view of these risks, the education department ordered that colleges in Lahore Division’s flood-hit areas closed until conditions improve.
Local administrations have set up relief camps for displaced families. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes after water levels rose in rivers Ravi and Chenab. Rescue teams are working round the clock to shift residents from low-lying areas to safer places.
Health authorities also issued alerts about possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases. Medical teams have been deployed in affected districts to provide emergency treatment. The government has assured that efforts are underway to restore normal life as soon as possible.
Education officials stressed that classes will resume once the situation becomes stable and safe for students. They added that alternative measures, including online learning, may be introduced if the closure extends for a longer period.
The provincial disaster management authority has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to official warnings. Heavy machinery is being used to strengthen embankments and prevent further flooding in vulnerable areas.
