Aston Villa have completed the signing of Victor Lindelöf on a free transfer. The Swedish defender joins on a deal until June 2027, with the option of extending for one more year. His arrival adds valuable experience to the squad as the new season continues.
Lindelöf was available as a free agent after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer. Several clubs were interested in his services, including Fiorentina and Everton. However, Aston Villa offered stronger terms and secured his signature before the transfer deadline.
The 31-year-old defender brings plenty of Premier League experience. During his time at Manchester United, he played more than 280 matches across all competitions. Known for his calm defending and strong positional sense, he is expected to provide both stability and depth in the back line.
Aston Villa’s defence has faced challenges in recent weeks due to injuries and suspensions. Adding a versatile defender like Lindelöf gives manager Unai Emery more options when setting up the team. His ability to play both centrally and in wider defensive roles makes him a valuable addition to the squad.
This signing is also part of a wider summer strategy from Villa. The club has already added Yasin Özcan in defence, Evann Guessand in attack, and Marco Bizot in goal. Bringing in Lindelöf completes an important piece of their squad rebuilding, giving balance across different areas of the pitch.
For Lindelöf, this move represents a new chapter in his career. After years in Manchester, he will now have the chance to continue competing at the highest level in England while helping Aston Villa push for success in both domestic and European competitions.
