LAHORE – Pakistan has confirmed it will not participate in the opening ceremony of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The event is scheduled to take place in Guwahati, India, on September 30.
Reports state that no representative from Pakistan, including the national women’s team captain, will attend the ceremony. Sources added that Pakistan will also avoid any side events or activities linked to the tournament being held in India.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has planned a grand opening ceremony in Guwahati, coinciding with the India vs Sri Lanka match. The program traditionally features a trophy photoshoot and a press conference with all team captains. With Pakistan opting out, these events will proceed without its participation.
Hybrid Model of the Tournament
Under the hybrid hosting model, Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka. The team is expected to travel directly from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, without visiting India at any stage of the tournament.
Meanwhile, India will host the remaining fixtures, including both the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony. This division was introduced to accommodate political sensitivities between the two countries.
Tournament Schedule
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will be held from September 30 to November 2. India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the event, with matches split across both nations.
The decision by Pakistan to skip the inauguration highlights the ongoing challenges surrounding sports and politics in the region. Cricket fans are now focusing on how the hybrid model will affect the overall atmosphere of the Women’s World Cup.
