The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially awarded Pakistan the hosting rights for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028. The decision was announced following an ICC Board meeting held in Ahmedabad, where several important recommendations were approved.
According to the ICC, Pakistan will host the prestigious tournament, while India will play its matches at a neutral venue. The announcement marks a significant development for cricket in Pakistan and highlights the country’s growing role in hosting major international events.
The decision regarding the Women’s T20 World Cup was among several key outcomes of the meeting. The ICC approved recommendations presented by its Chief Executives Committee after reviewing various cricket-related matters.
In another important update, the ICC agreed to allow the use of the pink ball in Test matches on a trial basis. The move aims to maximize playing time when poor light conditions affect matches. However, both participating teams must agree before the pink ball can be used.
The governing body also announced a change in T20 International playing conditions. The break between innings in T20 Internationals has now been increased to 15 minutes. The adjustment is expected to improve match operations and broadcasting requirements.
The ICC further revised the schedule for the Women’s Champions Trophy 2027. The tournament will now take place from February 14 to February 28, 2027. Previously, it was scheduled during the June-July period.
Attention was also given to the future of emerging cricket nations. The ICC confirmed that the Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 will feature 10 teams. The competition will include five Full Member nations and five Associate Member teams.
Additionally, the council approved a new 16-team global qualifying event for the Men’s T20 World Cup. The move is designed to provide more opportunities for teams to compete for places in the global tournament.
The ICC also addressed governance matters. Cricket Canada’s membership has been suspended due to serious breaches. Despite the suspension, Canada’s national team will remain eligible to participate in ICC competitions.
Meanwhile, an ICC delegation will visit Bangladesh to review the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s electoral process and related matters. The delegation recently completed a similar visit to Sri Lanka.
The ICC also expressed concern over the increasing number of franchise leagues worldwide. A special committee will be formed to study ways to maintain balance between international cricket and domestic franchise competitions.
With Pakistan set to host the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028, the country is preparing for one of the biggest events in women’s cricket, further strengthening its position on the global cricket stage.
