PSX Closes Lower, 100-Index Falls by 879 Points

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend on Thursday as the benchmark 100-index dropped by 879.55 points. The index closed at 156,141.25 points, down 0.56 percent, compared to 157,020.80 points a day earlier.

Trading activity, however, showed an increase in volume. A total of 1.27 billion shares were traded during the session, higher than 996 million shares recorded the previous day. The overall value of shares traded stood at Rs50.20 billion, slightly lower than Rs52.72 billion on Wednesday.

According to data released by the PSX, 487 companies participated in the trading session. Out of these, 225 companies recorded gains, 223 posted losses, while 39 remained unchanged.

Among the most active stocks, Agha Steel Industries led with 113 million shares traded at Rs9.77 per share. WorldCall Telecom followed with 85.6 million shares at Rs1.59, while K-Electric Limited recorded 69.8 million shares at Rs5.54.

In terms of price movement, PIA Holding Company Limited posted the highest gain of Rs323.00 per share, closing at Rs25,989.00. Khyber Textile Mills Limited was the second top gainer, rising by Rs151.20 to close at Rs1,671.36.

Market analysts noted that despite the fall in the benchmark index, the high trading volume reflected active investor participation. They added that the PSX continues to show resilience, though short-term volatility is likely due to broader economic concerns and global market trends.

The trading session highlighted mixed investor sentiment, with almost equal numbers of advancing and declining stocks. Market watchers believe that upcoming economic developments and corporate earnings reports will play a key role in determining the PSX’s direction in the coming days.
