Pakistan To Witness Heavy Rain And Thunderstorm In Upcoming Week

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain with gusty winds and thunderstorm activity across several regions of Pakistan next week.

According to the Met Office, moderately humid winds from the Arabian Sea are entering northern areas of the country. Intermittent rainfall with chances of thunderstorm is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan from September 16 to 19, while Kashmir is also likely to experience rain between September 15 and 19.

Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad are forecast to receive rain and thunderstorm spells during the same period. In contrast, Sindh will mostly remain hot and dry, although the coastal belt may see partly cloudy conditions. Balochistan is also expected to witness partly cloudy and humid weather in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has highlighted the devastating impact of recent floods across the province. Rising water levels in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers have caused widespread destruction. Officials report that more than 4.574 million people have been affected, with over 4,700 villages submerged.

Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed confirmed that nearly 2.516 million people trapped in floodwaters have been shifted to safer areas. Authorities have set up 372 relief camps, 459 medical camps, and 391 veterinary camps to support displaced families and their livestock. More than 2.020 million animals have also been rescued and relocated to safe locations.

Despite large-scale relief operations, the floods have already claimed at least 104 lives in different districts of Punjab. Officials have urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines as the forecast predicts further rain and thunderstorm activity during the coming week.
