Fresh Monsoon Spell to Lash Pakistan with Widespread Rains from September 16

Fresh Monsoon Spell to Lash Pakistan with Widespread Rains from September 16

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh monsoon spell that will impact the country’s upper and central regions. Moist currents from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave are expected to combine, bringing rain and thunderstorms from September 15 to 19.

According to PMD, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar. These weather conditions will persist with occasional breaks during the forecast period.

In Kashmir, areas such as Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, and Mirpur are also likely to receive scattered rainfall from September 15 to 19. The department warned of isolated heavy falls on September 16 and 18, which could increase risks of flash flooding and landslides in hilly areas.

Gilgit-Baltistan will also be affected, with districts including Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, and Astore likely to experience rain and thunderstorms between September 16 and 19.

In Punjab, the new monsoon spell is expected to bring rain to Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, and Jhelum between September 16 and 19. On September 18 and 19, showers are also predicted in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and other central districts.

The PMD further warned that heavy rainfall during this period may cause an increase in water flows in streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, and Kashmir. Vulnerable areas could face landslides.

Strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning may also damage weak structures, electric poles, vehicles, and billboards. Residents in hilly and flood-prone regions have been advised to take precautionary measures.

This monsoon spell is expected to replenish water resources but also poses significant risks to communities in vulnerable regions. Authorities have been alerted to ensure timely response in case of emergencies.
