ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken a major step toward strengthening its digital economy with the launch of the Center of Excellence in Gaming & Animation (CEGA). The initiative is a joint collaboration between Ignite National Technology Fund, under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, and HUM Network Limited.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of IT and was attended by Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, senior leadership of Ignite, HUM Network, and other dignitaries. The event marked what officials described as a milestone in building Pakistanβs creative and digital future.
Government vision for CEGA
Speaking at the event, Minister Shaza Khawaja said CEGA reflects the governmentβs commitment to investing in skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship. βThis isnβt just an MoU. It is a mission,β she said, adding that the center will provide real platforms for young creators to thrive.
Over the next five years, CEGA aims to incubate 200 startups. These businesses will gain access to mentorship, funding, and markets. In addition, the program will train 10,000 youth in advanced gaming, animation, and interactive media. A co-working space with 100 free seats will also be established to encourage collaboration and innovation.
Industry outlook
HUM Network CEO Duraid Qureshi described CEGA as more than a technology hub, calling it a place where creativity transforms into opportunity. Ignite CEO Rafique A Buriro added that CEGA will equip youth with the skills needed to lead in the global digital economy.
Global impact
The global gaming and animation industry is worth hundreds of billions of dollars. With CEGA, Pakistan hopes to secure its place in this fast-growing market by fostering a vibrant ecosystem of talent and entrepreneurship.
Pakistanβs young population, which is both tech-savvy and creative, is expected to be the driving force behind this transformation. CEGA represents a new era where the country is not only participating in the digital revolution but also aiming to become a leader in it.
