KARACHI β A Karachi jeweller lost Rs12 million in a daring robbery in the cityβs Karimabad area on Wednesday.
According to the president of the Karimabad Jewelers Association, the Karachi jeweller was returning from a gold laboratory in Saddar after a sale when the robbery occurred near the Government APWA College for Women.
The robbers reportedly held the Karachi jeweller at gunpoint, snatched the cash, and fled the scene. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. CCTV footage and other evidence are being collected to identify the culprits. Authorities are also obtaining further details from the affected Karachi jeweller to aid the investigation.
The incident highlights the ongoing street crime crisis in Karachi. Official data shows that 43,419 street crime cases were reported in the first eight months of 2025. At least 60 people were killed and 216 injured while resisting robberies, though police records acknowledge 53 deaths.
In the same period, 11,268 mobile phones were snatched, 1,430 cars were stolen or snatched, and 30,721 motorcycles were lifted in Karachi. On a daily basis, criminals steal an average of 46 mobile phones, six cars, and 126 motorcycles.
While this represents a slight decrease from 2024βwhen 49,615 street crimes were reportedβthe problem remains severe. Experts warn that the combination of organised crime, militancy, and police corruption continues to challenge law enforcement in Karachi.
Citizens face daily risks as street crime escalates, with robberies and violent incidents creating an atmosphere of insecurity. The robbery of the Karachi jeweller underlines the urgent need for improved policing and community safety measures.
