KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a strong rally in early trading on Thursday, with the KSE-100 index climbing sharply. The market opened in positive territory and surged by more than 1,100 points within the first ten minutes of trade.
At around 9:36 AM, the benchmark index had risen 1,124.34 points to 157,302.15, with trading volume crossing 30.6 million shares. By 9:59 AM, the bullish momentum strengthened as the index touched 157,535.36, backed by over 100 million shares.
At 10:04 AM, the PSX was hovering at 157,531.02, showing an intraday gain of 1,353.21 points or 0.87 percent. The day’s range so far has been between 156,978.85 and 157,590.52, with the broader market reflecting robust investor activity.
Over the past year, the benchmark index has surged 95.78 percent, while year-to-date it is up 36.83 percent. The 52-week range shows a remarkable journey from 79,798.75 to a recent high of 157,816.77.
Several individual stocks drove the rally. FPJM soared 17.92 percent to Rs6.58, DWSM rose 15.46 percent to Rs7.47, and CSIL gained 10.98 percent to Rs4.85. BOP advanced 10 percent to Rs23.88, while other names like AMBL, FIBLM, and PACE also recorded double-digit gains.
On the flip side, a few PSX stocks came under selling pressure. ASLPS dropped 10 percent to Rs22.50, FIMM fell 6.04 percent, and GUSM slipped 6 percent to Rs9.40. Other losers included IDRT, GEMBLUEX, and JKSM.
Among KSE-100 constituents, BOP, DGKC, KTML, and HBL supported the index, while HUBC, MEBL, PPL, and OGDC dragged it down in the previous session.
The surge comes after the PSX closed Wednesday’s session almost flat at 156,177.81, down by just 3.13 points. Investors are now watching closely to see if Thursday’s momentum pushes the market closer to its all-time high.
