ISLAMABAD β Pakistan and Iran have agreed to strengthen their agri coop framework to boost agricultural trade and innovation between the two countries.
Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, met with Iranβs Minister for Agriculture Jihad, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, to discuss ongoing agricultural cooperation. The talks focused on implementing decisions made by the Joint Committee on Agriculture Cooperation.
Both sides agreed to facilitate the import and export of agricultural goods in line with earlier commitments. A high-level Iranian delegation is expected to arrive in Pakistan within two weeks to finalize arrangements for the export of Pakistani corn to Iran.
During the meeting, the Pakistani minister thanked Iran for increasing imports of Pakistani rice and meat, which will support farmers and exporters. He emphasized that stronger agri coop will help both nations achieve long-term food security and mutual economic benefits.
Iran also showed interest in conducting joint studies with Pakistanβs Seed Councils. The focus will be on developing disease-resistant seed varieties, which are crucial for sustainable farming. This initiative under the agri coop program is expected to improve agricultural productivity and create opportunities for innovation.
Officials noted that these measures will enhance food security and support agricultural growth in both countries. They highlighted that close cooperation in seed development, crop improvement, and livestock production could significantly benefit farmers on both sides.
The strengthening of agri coop between Pakistan and Iran reflects their shared commitment to expand trade, ensure stable food supplies, and build resilience in the agriculture sector.
