Pakistan, Belarus Move Forward With New Tractor Assembly Plan

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, chaired a high-level meeting to discuss new investment in the tractor sector. The session was attended by representatives from private tractor investors, Margalla Heavy Industries Ltd., Heavy Industries Taxila, and Green Corporate Initiatives.

The meeting focused on establishing a 57–80 horsepower Belarus tractor assembly line in Pakistan. Haroon Akhtar Khan said the agreement with Belarus would strengthen agriculture and improve farmers’ productivity. He added that the government would ensure investment for setting up a local CKD (Completely Knocked Down) plant to produce high-horsepower tractors.

Industry sources highlighted that Pakistan has a potential market for 2,800 tractor units over the next five years. This demand, they noted, creates a strong case for local tractor assembly. Some investors have already expressed keen interest in Belarus tractors, while others are being encouraged to explore the opportunity.

Haroon Akhtar Khan stressed that cooperation between Pakistan and Belarus in tractor assembly could be a game-changer. He explained that a strong B2B relationship in this sector would not only support agricultural mechanization but also create new jobs and local value addition.

The SAPM assured full government support for the project and emphasized that policies would be aligned to attract more investment in the agriculture machinery sector. The introduction of Belarus tractors through local production is expected to reduce costs for farmers, improve efficiency, and support Pakistan’s broader agricultural growth strategy.

This initiative marks a significant step toward industrial collaboration and modern farming solutions. By developing local tractor assembly facilities, Pakistan aims to reduce dependence on imports, boost exports in the long run, and strengthen ties with international partners.
