Pakistan’s bilateral trade with Central Asian countries, along with Asia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, reached $2.41 billion in the 2025 fiscal year. This marks a significant increase from $1.92 billion recorded in FY24.
Exports from Pakistan to these regions surged to $1.77 billion, while imports were valued at $641 million. In the previous fiscal year, exports stood at $1.34 billion, and imports totaled $581 million, reflecting a strong recovery, according to documents obtained by Wealth Pakistan.
Afghanistan continues to dominate as Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the region. Exports to Afghanistan rose to $1.39 billion, while imports reached $612.5 million. Pakistan’s trade with Asia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan highlights the growing importance of regional connectivity and economic collaboration.
Kazakhstan has emerged as a notable partner, with Pakistani exports reaching $250.8 million. Uzbekistan follows with exports of $91.4 million and imports of $20.3 million in FY25. Other countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan, maintained smaller but steady trade shares. Experts note that while trade is growing, Pakistan’s share in the $318.01 billion Central Asian global trade in FY24 remains under $0.5 billion.
The Pakistan-Central Asia transit trade reached $410 million in FY25, demonstrating increased reliance on Pakistan’s trade corridors. Analysts say the real opportunity lies in establishing direct connectivity and strategic trade routes, which could significantly enhance Pakistan’s trade footprint in the region.
Overall, the surge in trade with Asia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan indicates promising potential for Pakistan. Strengthening infrastructure, transport links, and trade policies will be crucial in converting this growth into long-term regional economic benefits.
