Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Tahir Mehmood has pledged to strengthen efforts for resolving the challenges faced by the business community in the capital. He assured that ICCI will remain a strong advocate of traders and industrialists, ensuring ease of doing business in Islamabad.
He expressed these views as chief guest at the inauguration of a new Cash and Carry in Naval Encourage. He said ICCI will continue to oppose unilateral decisions that hinder growth and will act as the voice of the private sector.
Highlighting achievements, he noted that ICCI recently won relief for residents and the business community through a writ petition. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of Islamabad High Court overturned the CDAβs property tax hike and ordered that rates from 2001 would remain effective.
He further shared that ICCI is preparing new petitions to safeguard economic stakeholders, as many issues are tied to CDAβs decisions. He also pointed to ICCIβs role in persuading the Federal Board of Revenue to withdraw the requirement for declaring additional property values in income tax returns. This move was reversed after strong protests from the business community and intervention by the Prime Minister.
Earlier, President ICCI joined Member National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, senior ICCI officials, and former presidents in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Several executive members and trade leaders also participated in the event.
ICCI reaffirmed its commitment to protect economic interests, promote dialogue with government bodies, and work for policies that enable business growth in Islamabad.
