Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed officials to ensure smooth wheat supply to market under the new release policy. He said that sufficient availability of wheat will help keep flour and bread prices stable for consumers.
The directive came during a meeting at the CM House, attended by Agriculture Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar, Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, and other officials.
According to the briefing, Sindh currently has 1.2 million tons of wheat in stock, while the private sector holds another 600,000 tons. CM Shah noted that these reserves are enough for four and a half months, by which time the new harvest is expected.
Food Minister Makhdoom Mahboob informed the meeting that around 250,000 tons of wheat are usually released to the market each month. The chief minister stressed that a comprehensive wheat release policy must be finalized within the week, along with a fixed price mechanism.
He also underlined the importance of supporting small wheat growers. Farmers with 25 acres of land or less will receive one bag of DAP and two bags of urea fertilizer each. This, he said, would encourage a bumper crop in the upcoming season.
Shah emphasized that consistent wheat supply to market would not only stabilize flour rates but also strengthen public confidence in government measures. He said timely release of stocks, combined with incentives for farmers, will ensure both affordability for consumers and profitability for growers.
The provincial governmentβs plan aims to balance supply, demand, and pricing, while preparing for future needs with the upcoming harvest.
