Abu Dhabi Unveils New Ethics Code for Teachers across Schools

Abu Dhabi introduces new code of ethics for teachers

Abu Dhabi has introduced a new code of ethics for teachers, setting clear standards of conduct across classrooms. The initiative is designed to protect integrity, respect, and professionalism within schools.

The code applies to all educators working in both public and private schools. It is part of the wider Code of Conduct for Education Professionals already in place across the UAE.

The new framework outlines 22 behaviours that teachers must avoid. These include discrimination, harassment, gossiping, and sharing confidential student information. Teachers are also barred from promoting political or religious extremism and from spreading false or misleading news.

Respect for Emirati values and traditions is another key requirement. Educators must uphold cultural norms, present themselves professionally, and serve as role models for students and the community.

The prohibited behaviours are divided into six categories. They cover interactions with students, relationships with colleagues, community engagement, digital responsibility, legal duties, and public behaviour. For example, harassment, misuse of social media, or breaching student privacy are all considered serious violations.

The new code of ethics for teachers was developed by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). It aligns with the national Code of Conduct issued by the Ministry of Education, which promotes tolerance, respect, and student protection as guiding principles. These reforms reflect the UAE’s wider commitment to strengthening institutions, much like regional efforts to expand renewable energy — for instance, solar power projects in Yemen are bringing hope amid an energy crisis.

Schools are now required to ensure that every teacher signs the code and complies with its rules. ADEK will oversee enforcement through school inspections and governance measures.

Officials say the aim is not only to maintain professional standards but also to create a positive learning environment. By following the code, teachers will reinforce trust among students, parents, and the wider community.

This step is part of the UAE’s broader effort to strengthen its education sector. In recent years, the country has adopted new policies to modernize governance, improve teacher performance, and enhance the learning experience. Similar reforms can be seen in other areas, such as the UAE’s AI visa and residency reforms, which reflect the government’s focus on innovation and social responsibility.

By implementing this ethics code, Abu Dhabi underscores its commitment to shaping a responsible, professional, and respectful education system for future generations.
